Migrating from Github to Sourcehut

Earlier this year, I began migrating off of Github. My reasons are fairly simple and probably obvious for many people aware of the platform. With Microsoft’s participation in the genocide of Palestinians, I no longer want to be a user of their products nor do I want my projects to be associated with their platform.

All active development this year has been on Sourcehut, having had an account for several years now (their irc bouncer/client is a great product that I was happy to pay for) it was a simple decision to move there when I no longer wanted to be on Github.

In the coming months I will be moving the rest of my projects over. Some will remain maintained to a degree, my ipod themes for example I plan to continue to monitor the issues section as it has historically been the most common place for issues to get reported. All future projects will be on Sourcehut only.

One major part of this migration is my website. Currently it is hosted on Github Pages, and has been for over 4 years now. While I could use Sourcehut’s website hosting, I’ve decided to migrate to a VPS. More than likely Netcup, or something similarly renewable-powered. I must note that I am rather sceptical of Netcup’s renewable energy claims as they lack any details, while they are verified by the Green Web Foundation their database similarly lacks information of any sort on provider’s energy sources.

Moving to a VPS will allow me to move all my subdomains under one roof, which has been a goal of mine for a while now. However I’ll need time to set up and get ready, so I’m unsure of how soon this will happen. The transfer will likely be unnoticeable (fingers crossed).
